Dad was such an observer. He could sit and listen to us all ramble on for hours and hours, sitting with his hands clasped together just like that, kind of almost smiling the whole time. He would laugh heartily when we were funny and join the conversation as prompted and make the waitresses feel like they were the best waitresses in the world. Most times, though, he just sat there loving us, listening, enjoying our company.
The vibe that we share with our children is so vital to who they become and how they learn to love. I think of that often, particularly after I’ve been kinda terrible. But I look at this photo, and I remember what it felt like to be on the receiving end of that kind of genuine kindness and love and gentle energy, and it prompts me to reset.
He was such an awesome dad. xo
